on musical exhaustion.

I just finished up a very busy stretch of singing obligations, including two Bach Choir concert weekends in a row, and culminating in two straight nights of Bach Choir recording sessions, which are no fun at all - particularly since, although the recording sessions are much more stressful and tiring than a performance, we only get paid rehearsal rate, not concert rate (and there is a big difference).  I assume that the orchestra, of course, got paid their usual union rate.  It sticks in my craw.  Of course, the orchestra folks don't screw up, ever (unless there's brass involved) so perhaps it's fair.

Anyway, today feels like a Friday, since I actually have a night off tonight.

I've been spending a lot of time in Google Earth looking around my old hometown and some of the places near there which I used to visit.  How's this for something to do with my free time after I quit singing: I get my motorcycle license, then next fall I'll take a two week vacation up there and just ride around, taking photos, doing some fishing, checking stuff out.  I've been wanting to some variation on this for a couple of years, but I've always said I didn't want to do it alone.  It's probably unreasonable to expect that anyone but myself would be interested in such a thing, though.

In my imagination, I've cornered the Houston market for Becker Vineyards 2007 Prairie Rotie, a very nice Rhone valley-style wine.  While most grocery stores and liquor stores around here carry other Becker wines, this one is tough to find.  As of Saturday afternoon I'd completely bought out the stock of the two places I'd managed to find it, Spec's downtown and the Dunlavy Fiesta.  A little more than a case, overall, even after giving a few bottles away to friends.  There's a whole ocean of wine in my pantry and no one can get at it but me!  I...DRINK...YOUR....MILKSHAKE!

Tonight: a little cleaning, a little cooking, some wine and Firefly on Blu-ray.

the Star Trek for our generation. In 30 years we will have to endure endless revivals and spin-offs.
